Jane's Walk - North York at the Centre: Past, Present and Future
Join City Planning and TSA for a walking tour in the North York Centre area!
In the 1960s, North York transformed from a largely agricultural area into one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada, with ambitious plans for a vibrant new city centre. Join us for a walk through North York City Centre, the modern core developed in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s and now the largest office-based employment hub outside of downtown Toronto.
Explore its diverse urban landscape—from wide boulevards and vibrant retail streets to civic squares, indoor pathways, and unique public spaces shaped by decades of planning and growth. Along the way, discover architectural highlights ranging from modernist complexes to postmodern landmarks, uncover hidden gems such as public art and publicly accessible open spaces, and learn how the North York Centre Secondary Plan has guided development in the area. We will also discuss the ongoing North York at the Centre Planning Study and the future vision shaping the next chapter of this area.
